onsen: instant therapy in the freezing cold

pic­tures from kai aso, a mod­ernist ryokan in kyushu’s kumamoto pre­fec­ture. blaz­ing hot in sum­mer, at over 1,000 metres the tem­per­a­ture on novem­ber morn­ings rarely exceeds 0°C. the water is scald­ing hot, at around 40° — 45°C. the effect is, well, let’s say brac­ing.
