onsen: instant therapy in the freezing cold
pictures from kai aso, a modernist ryokan in kyushu’s kumamoto prefecture. blazing hot in summer, at over 1,000 metres the temperature on november mornings rarely exceeds 0°C. the water is scalding hot, at around 40° — 45°C. the effect is, well, let’s say bracing.
