in the abstract | whitechapel

fol­low­ing close­ly after the big male­vich exhi­bi­tion at tate mod­ern last sum­mer, the whitechapel gallery is soon to present a major sur­vey of 20th cen­tu­ry abstrac­tion in art cov­er­ing the peri­od 1915 to the present day. tak­ing male­vich’s  black and white supre­ma­tist com­po­si­tions as a start­ing point, the exhi­bi­tion will take in some 100 mod­ernist and con­tem­po­rary artists, includ­ing great names such as rod­chenko, mon­dri­an, carl andre, and dan flavin.

the show will be aug­ment­ed with a num­ber of spe­cial events, talks and screen­ings in con­junc­tion with the exhi­bi­tion. it’s like­ly to be a pop­u­lar show giv­en the names involved, and in antic­i­pa­tion the gallery is open now for for­ward booking.
