kamik\u014dchi<\/strong><\/em> is a remote highland valley located in the northern japan alps, within nagano prefecture. part of the ch\u016bbu-sangaku<\/em> <\/strong>national park, it lies at an elevation of approximately 1,500 metres and is accessible only from mid-april to mid-november. private vehicles are not permitted within the area, helping to preserve its quiet, undeveloped character. yet the increasing popularity of kamikochi as a tourist destination, along with the burgeoning tourism of japan in general can lead to more than a little congestion at the
the valley is known for its landscapes, steeped in the picturesque including the azusa<\/em><\/strong> river, taish\u014d<\/em><\/strong> pond, and surrounding peaks such as hotakadake<\/em><\/strong> and the active volcano yakedake<\/em><\/strong>. well-manicured and rustically signposted walking trails link key points of interest, including kappa-bashi<\/em><\/strong>, a wooden suspension bridge that serves as a central landmark.
these photographs were taken during a visit in late october, when the autumn foliage was near its peak. deciduous trees such as larch and birch displayed their seasonal colours, and morning mist rising from the river added to the visual atmosphere. conditions remained dry and calm throughout the day, with soft light filtering through the forest canopy in the afternoon.
