tokyo empty

pictures taken at new year in tokyo. in the shogatsu holiday something remarkable happens to the centre of arguably the biggest hypermetropolis in the world; it empties. the majority of companies shut up shop for three or four days, and tokyo-ites return to their hometowns to spend new year with families. you do run into a few souls here and there, idiots with cameras, like me, but for the most part, especially away from the bigger thoroughfares, and the shrines and temples, there’s a strange silence in the city.
