it started as a not very promising cloudy morning in the small town of ortisei in the dolomite region of northern italy or alto adige.
starting with a ride on the funicular railway departing from ortisei to the plateau heights of rasciesa next door to the more well-known seceda viewpoint. the walk began at the funicular terminal and was intended to be a circular route around the peak with its statue of christ crucified. didn’t get that far however, received a phone call as i reached the holy chapel from a neighbour about our plumbing, so had to turn back, it was, neverthe less, a wonderful hike.
